Harnessing practical skills in STEM with virtual labs

Harnessing practical skills in STEM with virtual lab

Video recording – BeyondLabz

30/10/2020 @ 2:30 pm 3:30 pm

There is a clear adverse relationship between the onset of COVID-19 (and the resulting social distancing requirements in place) and the student ability to access the physical laboratories that are critical to the student experience for STEM disciplines.

Join the academic experts at Beyond Labz to find out how they have developed a student led virtual lab environment which enables to have the same freedoms as they have in a physical labs. Students can learn, make mistakes (safely) and most importantly to think for themselves in an unconstrained environment.

Session outline:

i) The need for virtual labs in the current pandemic (including research insights)

ii) Introduction of virtual labs – pedagogical background, the science behind the product, use cases and evidence

iii) Product demo – a series of short Chemistry lessons

iv) Interactive exercises and Q&A

More about BeyondLabz

Beyond Labz provides sophisticated and realistic laboratory simulations for chemistry, biology, and physics, based on a Science SDK built up over 20 years of research. Our philosophy is that students should be allowed to “mess around in the labs” where they are not artificially inhibited in any way and are free to make decisions and experience the resulting consequences. We believe students learn science best by doing real science, and that a combination of real and virtual labs provides students a richer learning experience, (by way of understanding and application of theory) where they are freed from the constraints of time, safety, and costs.
