Over the past year, universities have drastically shifted delivery to online, blended and hybrid modes of delivery to educate students remotely during the pandemic. The acceleration to digital has led to the creation of new online content including pre-recorded lectures, learning resources and assessment. In our recent survey of over 3,000 university students (in collaboration with Wonkhe) we found that students would really like to keep these learning activities but there is scope for further thinking and development in how courses could be structured to make the most of the potential for online learning

What remains a challenge is sustaining good levels of engagement with a cohort of remote students. What does good engagement look like in an online environment? What approaches can we take to ensure that students turn up with their cameras on and ready and willing to participate?

In this webinar we are joined by Paula Shaw (Associate Professor in Online Teaching and Learning at University of Derby Online (UDOL) and Academic Lead for HE Innovate), Charlotte Ellis and Matt Gilooly (Learning Technology Media Advisers at UoD (University of Derby) who will share information about their ethnographic research findings into student engagement.

Dr. Margaret Korosec (Head of Digital Enterprise and Solutions at University of Derby Online) will explore key considerations in programme design in order to foster engagement and John Roberts (Online Learning Consultant at Pearson) who will share practical examples of engaging students online, using our experience of developing online programmes with our partner institutions.

There will be lots of time for Q&A and opportunity to share challenges and good practice with other attendees.
